Local Produce
Portarlington and the Bellarine Peninsula once produced potatoes and onions that were transported as far as New Zealand. Now, the trend continues with many small industries taking the step further and producing a range of high quality goods that would compete with any market. While potatoes and onions are no longer grown in great quantities, there is an emergence of a variety of other local products.
Produce such as olive oil, cheese, honey, eggs, varieties of fruits, and of course mussels and a range of other seafood items. These along with a compliment of award wining wineries will ensure that Portarlington and the Bellarine Peninsula will be equal with other local producers in Victoria.
Make Portarlington your base as you follow the Food and Wine trail around the Bellarine Peninsula. |

DRYSDALE CHEESES is the first commercial goat cheese manufacturer on the Bellarine Peninsula .
Registered in December 2005, our cheese making concentrates on small quantities of fine, hand- crafted cheese made from the milk of our small herd of Saanen milking goats.
The CHILLI, CHIVE & GARLIC SHEV is a creamy but tangy cheese with a relatively short shelf life. Best enjoyed when it is young and fresh.
We make a HALLOUMI style of cheese. It is the type of cheese found all over the middle east as a grilling or pan frying, and is used by the Greeks when they cook their saganaki. Once cooked, serve immediately with a squeeze of lemon.
FETTINA is not made in Greece , so we can't call it Fetta. Our cheese is a crumbly, but never dry, fetta-style. We make this cheese and store it in brine for a short time before draining and presenting it for sale. Fettina is available in its natural state or we can drizzle it with olive & canola oil, flavoured with spices.
RAINFOREST GOAT is fettina flavoured with black pepper, dorrigo pepper, lemon myrtle & lemon peel, along with garlic, onion, coriander, celery & thyme.
MORROCCAN GOAT is fettina flavoured with garlic, cayenne, cumin, coriander, cardemon, cassia & tumeric.
Drysdale Cheeses is proud to make a selection of European style cheeses, including traditional farmhouse cheddar (CORIO BAY CHEDDAR), a soft HAVARTI, a soft and pungent blue (BELLARINE BLU) and a hard-cooked Italian style of cheese not unlike parmesan (PALMERSTON CHEESE). These cheeses required careful aging and so may be unavailable from time to time.
Our cheeses are used in many of the fine restaurants on the Bellarine or may be purchased from a few selected retail outlets.
